Update to Wednesday’s Fatal Crash on I70

The Mesa County Coroner’s office has released the identity of the man killed in Wednesday’s fatal crash on I70 near Horizon Dr.  Manuel R. Cobo, a 42-year-old male resident of Grand Junction was on his way back from a job in Parachute when the pickup truck he was driving left the roadway and rolled multiple times. Mr. Cobo was wearing a seatbelt. The Cause of Death was Multiple Injuries and the Manner of Death was Accident. Toxicology studies have been ordered and will take approximately four weeks to complete.

The passenger who survived Wednesday’s fatal crash in I70 has been identified as 21-year-old Daniel Gonzalez of Grand Junction.  He remains hospitalized with serious injuries.  Mr. Gonzalez was partially ejected during the crash and pinned by part of the pickup when it rolled.  We do not believe he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

We are still trying to determine why the driver went off the road, causing the pickup to roll.
