West Middle School is transitioning to shelter in place after briefly being put on lockdown late this morning.

Grand Junction Police officers were called out to the 1700 block of N. 1st St. when a woman reported she had been assaulted.  The victim said a man, whom she knew, kicked in her door and assaulted her.  He then fled  and was believed to have been armed with a knife.

Officers put West Middle School on lockdown as a precaution while they searched the area for the suspect.  Extra officers also went to Grand Junction High School as a precaution.  At this time they  have not located the man, but do not believe the schools are in any danger.

Police officers will continue to try to locate the suspect.  If you have any information about this incident please call 242-6707.
