Grand Valley Residents Invited to Participate in National Police Week 2014 #GVCopBeat #gjco #mesacounty
Each May we honor the men and women in law enforcement who were killed in the line of duty the previous year during National Police Week. This year that week is May 11-17, and your local law enforcement agencies are inviting you to join us as we honor the 111 law enforcement officers who were killed in 2013.
There are several public events you can attend that are great for the whole family. The first is a flag ceremony on Monday, May 12 at 7:30am at the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office. The Honor Guard will lower the flag to half staff in front of their building. Then on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30pm, also at the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, we will hold our annual Touch-a-Truck, where you can climb inside some of our specialized vehicles such as the SWAT BearCat, Bomb Squad truck, and Mobile Communication Vehicle. That will be followed by our annual Memorial Vigil starting at 7:30pm, which includes the Combined Honor Guard presentation, rifle salute, bagpipes, and more.
During Police Week, you will also see people wearing blue ribbons and shining blue lights on their homes and businesses. We will have blue ribbons available in our lobby. Feel free to swing by one up to wear that week.
