The Grand Junction Police Department has arrested a second person believed to have been acting as an accomplice to a 16-year-old who was arrested for stealing two rifles from Cabela’s on July 29, 2014. 22-year-old Adam James Rodriguez of Clifton is in the Mesa County Jail on theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor charges.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video of two male subjects in the “gun library” area of the store. One of the males, believed to be 16-year-old Florencio Gonzalez, is seen hiding the two rifles in his pant legs. A second male, believed to be Rodriguez, appears to be acting as a lookout. As part of the investigation two witnesses were shown the surveillance video and both identified the second person as Rodriguez and that they had seen him earlier at a residence with Gonzalez.
When officers contacted Rodriguez he admitted to being present during the theft and knowledge of the theft after he saw Gonzalez remove the rifles from his pants. He denied seeing the theft in the store occur. Based on the video footage, investigators do not believe Rodriguez could have missed the theft occurring.
