The 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team continues to investigate the officer involved shooting that happened last month in the 1700 block of Grand Ave. to determine if any criminal charges are warranted against the officers involved.
The Grand Junction Police Department has completed a separate, internal review of the incident. Chief John Camper released the following statement:
“The Internal Affairs Unit conducted a parallel investigation of the officer involved shooting that occurred on August 25, 2014 at 1720 Grand Ave.
Administratively, we have found that the use of force was consistent with Grand Junction Police Department policy. The officers are commended for their professional handling of this incident. Based on this determination, the officers have been approved to return to regular duty when they are ready and able to do so.
This determination is completely separate from the analysis that must be conducted by the District Attorney’s Office after they receive the results of the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) investigation. Only they can determine whether the shooting was justified and lawful under Colorado state law.”
