The Grand Junction Police Department has arrested 20-year-old Sydney Danielle White of Grand Junction on a charge of child abuse resulting in death.

The arrest comes after a social worker at Denver Children’s Hospital in Aurora notified our investigators on September 16 that an 11-month-old girl named Angel Lane Place had arrived at their hospital from St. Mary’s Hospital with head trauma.  The child was not expected to survive.

During the investigation detectives learned Angel was in White’s care who was serving as a foster mom.  White told investigators that on September 12 she accidentally dropped Angel on the floor which resulted in a minor cut to Angel’s lip and a bloody nose.  White also said that on the morning of September 15 Angel was screaming and she couldn’t get her to stop. She described shaking the baby.  White said the baby initially became lethargic and wouldn’t wake up, but that later she appeared to be doing better.  Later that night White took Angel to St. Mary’s Hospital when Angel’s right side became stiff and she was unresponsive.  Angel went to Children’s Hospital that same night, where she later died on September 17.  During examination the coroner found additional head injuries.

Detectives booked White into the Mesa County Jail.  For information on inmates in that facility, including bond updates, visit the MCSO Inmate Inquiry System.

MCDHS needs to pull their heads out of their butts and stop trying to have control over families and for once think of what is best for the child. They never think of the children and I know this from experience, all they care about is having control, and another innocent child lost her life because of MCDHS. They need to share equal responsibility in the death of this sweet little innocent girl. They need to be charged and thrown in jail as well.

How can you immediately KNOW that this had anything to do with MCDHS? I am a “foster mom” to 4 children and DHS had NOTHING to do with it. I was asked by 2 parents to “Foster” their children and we had it done thru the court and it NEVER involved DHS. 3 of the children have went back to their mom but I still get them occasionally and 1 is “foster” shared between his grandparents and I and will be that way until he turns 18. Just because you are a foster parent does not mean it was DHS that put the child/children there.

because the child was removed from their home which Is why I know mcdhs was involved, every time a child dies in foster care mcdhs is usually involved. They do no follow up with children who are placed in kinship, they just drop and leave and never check up on them at all, but yet they always say they are doing what is in the best interest of the child, which in fact they don’t care one bit about the children, all they care about Is having control over the situation.
