The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating a serious injury crash involving a motorcycle rider who rear-ended a Honda Civic. The crash is on Hwy. 6, just west of 1st St near Ed Bozarth Chevrolet.
At this point in the investigation we believe the motorcycle rider was in the left lane attempting to pass a vehicle that was in the right lane. That left lane becomes a left-turn only lane in front of Ed Bozarth Chevrolet. A Honda Civic was in front of the motorcycle and had slowed significantly to make a left turn into Ed Bozarth Chevrolet from the turn lane. The motorcycle rider, who witnesses say was speeding, did not see the slowed car in time, and although he tried to stop, the motorcycle rider crashed into the back of the Honda. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with what appear to be life-threatening injuries. He was wearing a helmet. We do not have any indication at this point that he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Hwy 6 (North Ave.) is closed from 1st St. to the point where it merges with Hwy 50 (in front of Dana Motors). It will likely remain closed for approximately another hour while investigators map the crash scene and gather evidence.
