Scam for Social Security Numbers–What You Need to Know #GVCopBeat #MesaCounty

The Grand Junction Police Department has recently taken reports of a scam hitting the Western Slope. The scam comes in the form of a text message, with the message:0

“Wells Fargo Notification: 541-595-3388”

Once the caller dials the number, an automated message says: “Your debit card has been compromised, please enter your Social Security number and press one.”

This message is a SCAM and not authorized by Wells Fargo. If you become a target, do not call the number and enter your Social Security number and immediately delete the message. It is important to never give out your personal information, such as your Social Security number or bank information without knowing that the agency seeking such information is valid and trustworthy.
