Vehicle Vs. Bicycle Crash at 7th and Ute Ave #GVCopBeat #GVTraffic

The Grand Junction Police Department has responded to a report of a vehicle vs. bicycle at the intersection of 7th Street and Ute Avenue. Traffic is currently being diverted and the intersection is closed. Please avoid the area, we will post more information as it becomes available.



At this time, Ute Avenue from S. 8th Street to S. 6th Street is closed to traffic as is S.7th Street from Pitkin Avenue to Colorado Avenue.  This crash is being investigated by the Grand Junction Police Department Crash Investigation Team including officers from the Motorcycle Unit and Investigations. The intersection is expected to be opened around 1pm this afternoon.

An initial investigation shows that a male on a bicycle was going North on S. 7th Street at Ute Avenue and was struck by a Pickup truck that was going West on Ute Avenue.  When Fire Personnel arrived on scene, a bystander was doing CPR on the rider of the bicycle.  He was transported by the Grand Junction Fire Department to a hospital and his condition is not known at this time.

S. 7th Street and Ute Avenue are now both open for traffic.  The police department has been notified the rider of the bicycle involved in this crash has died.  Information on his identity is not available but will be released by the Coroner’s Office at a later time.
