The Grand Junction Police Department, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, and the Colorado State Patrol are investigating a string of car thefts that have occured across Mesa County this morning.

Shortly after 5:00am, a victim reported that he had left his vehicle running and unattended in the 300 Block of Summer Glen Drive to warm up.  When he returned to the vehicle, it was gone.

Just after 6:00am, another reporting party called dispatch, stating that he, too, discovered his car stolen from the 2400 Block of Theresea Lane, which had also been left running and unattended.  He also discovered an unknown vehicle left on his property, which was determined to be the original stolen vehicle from the 300 Block of Summer Glen, reported earlier in the morning.

This pattern continued throughout the morning, with the suspect abandoning the car from Theresea Lane in the 500 Block of Garland and stealing another car, which was subsequently abandoned in the the 3200 Block of Bunting Avenue, where a fourth vehicle was stolen.  Ultimately, that fourth vehicle was recovered in the 2800 Block of Brittany Drive, where a fifth vehicle was stolen.  That vehicle has not yet been recovered.

All five stolen vehicles were reported as being running and unattended at the time they were stolen.  There is no suspect information at this time.  The Grand Junction Police Department, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, and the Colorado State Patrol are conducting a joint investigation.  More information will be released as it becomes available.

I sit in mine while its warming up, taking everything to do first then I go to my car, warm it up for 15 minutes or so then take off. At least I am the one driving my car and my odds of getting a “Puffing” ticket are pretty nill
