Will You Volunteer to Stand with Victims? #ShareGJ

VAP LogoFINALThe Grand Junction Police Department is recruiting volunteer Victim Advocates who have the heart and compassion to stand with those who are experiencing some of the worst times in their lives. Victim Advocates fill an integral role in providing exceptional service to victims of crime, an important value of the Grand Junction Police Department.  Our advocates provide support, comfort, and resources to individuals who have experienced traumatic incidents. Volunteers in this role are provided with comprehensive training to equip them with the skills and knowledge they’ll need to serve our community.

Mary Harmeling, the Victim Advocate Coordinator at the Grand Junction Police Department since 2008, says, “This is a very challenging but fulfilling volunteer role. Advocates certainly can’t fix anyone’s chaos or tragedy, but they can be one of the first ones to help victims in the long journey to healing.”

Our next session of victim advocate training will begin in September. If you would be well-suited to this call for service, please contact Mary Harmeling at (970)549-5290, or email her at maryh@gjcity.org.

Dear GJPD, I would love to be a VAP again,  serving here was the best volunteering job I ever had, but I can never get your head of this Department Mary Harmeling  to ever call me back and when I try to email her, the email given is no good. I am hoping that may be some how I can get through to her here. ((?)) Have a great day folks.  Sincerely,

    John Edwards

Mr. Edwards, I’m sorry you’ve had trouble reaching out to our Victim Advocate coordinator. I would be happy to share a message with her. You can email me directly at gjpd@gjcity.org with your phone number, and I’ll make sure your call is returned. Thanks, again!
