On Monday night, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department, as well as deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, were in the area of the 2900 Block of D Road, attempting to contact a subject wanted in connection to a homicide in Utah.
During this incident, southbound traffic on 29 Road was blocked by a GJPD patrol car with its emergency lights activated. Shortly after 11:00pm, the driver of a silver Ford F150 failed to stop for the traffic closure, and collided with the unoccupied patrol car in the intersection of 29 Road and D Road. The suspect vehicle continued southbound on 29 Road before being stopped by law enforcement near C 1/2 Road.
The driver, identified as 26 year old Ricky Henderson, displayed multiple signs of intoxication. Henderson was found to have a prior DUI from 2012. Henderson declined voluntary roadside maneuvers and chemical testing, and was transported to the Mesa County Jail on charges of DUI, Hit and Run, and Careless Driving.
