All too often, law enforcement officers and fire fighters are forced to be reactive when it comes to providing life-saving help in our community. This month, the Grand Junction Police Department, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, and the Grand Junction Fire Department are going to partner with the St. Mary’s Regional Blood Center—and COMPETE with one another—to create a proactive initiative in our community to donate blood.
For the third year in a row, we’re excited to announce the Heroes Behind the Badge blood drive! The premise is simple: we are urging community members to plan to donate blood sometime during May 15-25. You can plan to attend one of the events listed below and donate at the blood-mobile, or you can go to the St. Mary’s Blood Center anytime during this timeframe. When you donate, you’ll get the opportunity to vote for Police or Fire. The agency with the most votes at the end of the 10 day drive will win a traveling trophy, as well as a $500 donation to the charity of their choice.
A few things to remember:
- Bring your ID, drink lots of water, and try to eat something before you donate.
- Remember to VOTE!
- Help us spread the word by telling family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers!
- Donors with O- blood type are especially encouraged to donate! While all donations are valuable, this blood type is rare and universal.
One in seven people entering the hospital will need blood. Your donation could potentially save the lives of up to three people. Please consider joining us this month to save lives in our community!
