On Wednesday afternoon, shortly before 4:00pm, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department were dispatched to an apartment in the 800 Block of Grand Avenue on a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the reporting party and victim, who had what appeared to be dried blood on him, a swollen eye, and small puncture wounds to his neck and chest.
The victim stated that, approximately 15 minutes prior to his call to 911, his son, identified as James Bardell, 29, came to the victim’s home and demanded money. When the victim refused, the suspect grabbed a butcher knife from the victim’s counter and began attempting to stab the victim. A struggle ensued, and ultimately the suspect took the victim’s wallet and a flashlight and left the residence.
At approximately 7:00pm yesterday evening, troopers with the Colorado State Patrol contacted the suspect in this case and he was remanded to the Mesa County Jail on several unrelated charges.
The charges relating to the incident reported to the Grand Junction Police Department are Criminal Attempt to Commit 2nd Degree Murder (F3), Aggravated Robbery (F3), 2nd Degree Assault (F4), Felony Menacing (F5), and Theft (M2).
There is no current booking photo available for Bardell at this time.
