This morning, at 4:45am, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department were dispatched to the Walgreens on the corner of 1st Street and Patterson Road on a report of a burglary in progress. An alarm company reported that three suspects were inside the store, which was closed at the time. Officers responded to the scene, but the suspects were gone when they arrived. It is unknown at this time if the suspects stole anything from the business.
Approximately 30 minutes later, officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle from the burglary in the parking lot of the Walgreens on North Avenue, which was also closed. The store on North Avenue did not appear to have been entered, and the vehicle fled the area. Officers were able to quickly locate the vehicle in the parking lot of Bookcliff Middle School. Three subjects fled on foot from the vehicle. One was detained by officers and is currently in custody. Two other subjects fled westbound from the school. A perimeter of law enforcement, including the Grand Junction Police Department, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, and Colorado State Patrol, was set up in an effort to locate the suspects, including a K9 unit to attempt a track. A shelter in place order was sent out to more than 1000 phones in the area, including the Mesa County Health Department. The suspects were not located, and the shelter in place was lifted at 6:48am.
