MULCAHYOn Friday night, October 18th, officers and detectives with the Grand Junction Police Department were dispatched to investigate a sex assault that was reported to have taken place in the 1100 Block of Texas Avenue.  After interviewing the victim and the suspect, who were known to one another prior to this incident, officers arrested Ryan Mulcahy, 23, of Grand Junction, for charges of Sexual Assault (F3), 2nd Degree Assault (F4), Unlawful Sexual Contact (F4), and 3rd Degree Assault (M1).  Mulcahy was remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility, where he is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.

We want to take this opportunity to remind our community of the vital importance of reporting sexual assault, unwanted sexual contact, or criminal sexual harassment.  Reporting these crimes could bring the perpetrator to justice and prevent future assaults.  It can also connect victims with important resources and services.  The Grand Junction Police Department takes reports of sexual assault very seriously, and each report is carefully investigated.  Our detectives prioritize the importance of treating victims with respect and dignity.  We can also connect victims with one of our victim advocates who can remain in contact throughout the process of the criminal investigation, and even throughout the potential criminal trial.

If you are a victim of a sexual assault that has not been reported to law enforcement, please call us at (970)242-6707.  We want to help.
